The last decade has seen the fashion choices of everyone from celebrity stylists and wardrobe consultants to the girl next door being influenced by one force of nature.
It’s hard to know where Carrie Bradshaw ends and Sarah Jessica Parker starts, but the truth is the phenomenon that is the Sex and the City star’s wardrobe has made SJP a standout trendsetter in the Noughties.
Carrie’s love for Manolo Blahniks and her kooky way of mixing couture with vintage has rubbed off on many high street fashion choices. But while fashion stylist Patricia Field has been responsible for creating the character’s signature look, the actress playing our favorite writer has been impressive in developing her own style over the last ten years. This has led to several publications bestowing titles such as style icon of the decade on SJP.
The last year has been a big one for the 44-year-old actress. She and husband Matthew Broderick welcomed twin girls and shooting has started on the SATC movie sequel. One of her best looks this year in my opinion was the fabulous Dior gown she wore for the Oscars back in February.
She showed off her shoulders in a silver and ivory strapless dress with a sweetheart neckline. Soft curls, sparkly accessories and a full skirt made her look almost bridal, but the overall appearance was toughened up slightly with a glamorous belt cinching in her waist.
Next May will see SATC’s sequel hit our screens, with early pictures showing Carrie rocking a Dior t-shirt in one scene and going back to the Eighties in another. Who knows just how much SJP will influence your wardrobe next year?
