Yohji Yamamoto Returns to Japan

Yohji Yamamoto Returns to Japan

While the New York, London, Milan and Paris fashion weeks may be over, the industry certainly never takes a break and one top-class designer from Japan is set to show his latest menswear offering at the beginning of next month.

Yohji Yamamoto has not shown his collection in Paris for two seasons now and he says that when his clothes make a return to the catwalk, the show will be held at the Yoyogi National Stadium in Tokyo on April 1st, Vogue reports.

“I, myself, have been missing in Tokyo fashion shows for almost 20 years,” Yamamoto said. “The men’s fashion is suffering in Japan, so I hope to light a fire.”

We can’t wait to see what he comes up with after all this time.

The designer first established his Y’s Incorporated brand in 1972 and presented his first collection in Paris in 1981.

Will you miss seeing Yohji Yamamoto’s designs in the French capital?

Victoria Beckham: I’d Love to Dress Michelle Obama!

What we like about Victoria Beckham is that she really seems to love and care about fashion.

Although there are loads of celebrities who have ventured into the world of design, her collection is one that has continued to impress fashion consultants, personal stylists and us time and time again.

But even with the likes of Elle MacPherson and Cameron Diaz wearing her dresses, it seems as though Mrs Beckham won’t be happy until she has dressed one very special lady.

"I would love to dress Mrs Obama, absolutely, absolutely, absolutely," she gushed recently.

And given the First Lady’s penchant for stylish designer pieces, we think she is someone who may be tempted by the simple sophistication and classic cuts of Beckham’s collections.

"I just think she’s incredible and she’s a very strong woman and she’s beautiful," the former Spice Girl added.

The star showed her fourth collection at New York Fashion Week last month.

Can you imagine the First Lady stepping out in a Victoria Beckham design?

Marc Jacobs ‘Looks to the 50s’ for Louis Vuitton

Fashion is always changing and evolving and we here at My Fashion Plate are often left wondering which of today’s trends will reappear in your virtual closet organizer in decades to come.

From Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel to Christopher Bailey at Burberry, designers are constantly drawing upon the trends of the past for their latest collections.

If you’ve been following any of the action from Paris Fashion Week you can’t fail to have noticed that Marc Jacobs’ autumn/winter 2010-11 designs for Louis Vuitton drew heavily on the full skirts and nipped-in waists of 1950s fashion.

In his ‘And God Created Women’ show that made a point of using models of all shapes and sizes, New York-born Jacobs also featured lady-like handbags and a return to the kind of elegance that we think oozes covered-up sexiness.

If you hate miniskirts and long for the kind of wardrobe owned by the likes of Grace Kelly, then check this out, as it could be the collection for you.

Which shows from Paris Fashion Week caught your eye?

Summer is just around the corner ladies, and we all know what that means – yes, swimsuit season is upon us! Dreaded as is may be for some of us who aren’t in tip-top “bathing suit condition,” the right suit may just inspire you to hit the gym and start priming your bod to sizzle when the weather gets warmer.

Enter Crystal Jin Swimwear – a line of gorgeous suits that will make any fashionista swoon. These sophisticated frocks are made using luxurious Italian and French silks, hand sewn details, and a touch of hardware that is never overdone. I’ve already set my sights on this stunning black monokini:

The brain child of Parson’s New School for Design alum, Crystal Jin Eley, the collection features suits and cover-ups for the modern fashion-lover who demands the same contemporary aesthetic from her swimwear as she does from the rest of her wardrobe.

One of my favorite things about this line is the attention to detail. Many of the pieces feature hand finishing and hardware from Barcelona or special pieces created exclusively for Crystal Jin by metal artisans based in LA. From itsy-bitsy triangle top bikinis to bandeau tops, and monokinis with plunging necklines, there is bound o be a suit to match everyone’s taste!

Leather-clad Lily Cole Rounds off Paris Fashion Week

Leather-clad Lily Cole Rounds off Paris Fashion Week

Almost as quickly as it arrived Paris Fashion Week has come to a close and it has rounded off what we can only describe as an incredible month of show-stopping fashion.

From Chanel’s glacial range of sheepskin, mohair and that famous tweed, to the showing of Alexander McQueen’s final collection, we’ve been treated to some really memorable designs in the French capital.

The week was rounded off by the likes of Elie Saab, Miu Miu and Louis Vuitton, which of course boasted a star-studded front row of celebrities and fashion stylists, while Jean Paul Gaultier’s collection for Hermes certainly caused quite a stir.

It opened with a flame-haired Lily Cole posing in front of a giant white tunnel, before a collection that wouldn’t have looked out of place on the set of The Avengers was previewed.

The model led the way in a skin-tight black leather catsuit accessorized with a bowler hat and umbrella, before the other girls followed her out in similarly modern takes on traditional English gent attire, some of which came complete with newspapers.

Which has been your favorite collection from Paris?

Aggy and Twiggy Get Designing

Aggy and Twiggy Get Designing

It’s starting to feel a bit like many models don’t think walking down the catwalk in some of the world’s most beautiful clothes is enough any more – they want to be designing them as well.

Agyness Deyn and Twiggy have both announced that they will be collaborating with some of fashion’s biggest brands to create their own collections.

While feisty young Brit Aggy, who was known for her boyish crop of platinum hair until she dyed it jet black, will be working with Barneys Japan on a range called I Am by Agyness Deyn for Barneys Green, it is the older model’s clothes we’re looking forward to.

Twiggy’s collection, entitled Twiggy London, will be launching on the shopping channel HSN next month as well as the station’s website and we’ll definitely be having a click.

Although she may have had her heyday back in the 60s, the model is still a style icon and with so much experience working with celebrity stylists in the industry to draw on, we don’t think she’ll have any trouble giving women like us what we want when it comes to fashion.

Will you be checking out Twiggy’s designs?

Get Kate Moss’ Nautical Look

Get Kate Moss

Paris is known for its chic and sophisticated fashion and Kate Moss is one person who definitely knows how to dress for the occasion.

The model has been in the French capital to enjoy the shows at the city’s fashion week and we think she really hit the nail on the head with her latest look.

Leaving the Ritz hotel she achieved the perfect mix of casual and class in a nautical-style outfit that you can easily recreate yourself.

Moss sported a navy-and-white stripy tee paired with dark blue skinny pants, but really gave the look a vibrant lease of life with a classic red jacket featuring navy trim and gold buttons.

Paired with a large black bag, which may have come from her own collection for Longchamp, a black scarf and over-sized sunglasses, she looked effortlessly stylish.

All you should do to achieve Parisian chic a la Kate is keep it simple – base your outfit around a Breton-striped top and stick to a color palette of red, white and navy.

Anchors away!

Want to get the look? You can use My Wardobe to quickly and easily view what you have hanging in your closet.

Alexander McQueen’s Final Collection Shown in Paris

The Alexander McQueen show was undoubtedly one of the most-talked about events of Paris Fashion Week and one which personal stylists and celebrities alike may have waited with baited breath to see.

There was an air of sadness surrounding the PPR headquarters where the designer’s last collection was debuted, but critics have praised the show and it is widely regarded to be one of the most important moments in fashion.

McQueen cut every piece for the collection himself before his death and although 16 of the outfits were only 80 per cent finished, his team clearly did a fine job of completing them.

Golden brocade was the dominant theme, with models stepping out in designs that stuck to a regal color palette of navy, red and ivory.

Full ruffled skirts and exquisite ornate detailing covered the silk bodices, complemented by the fierce black ankle boots that were decorated in golden cherubs winding their way between ivory and broken skulls.

The British designer died at the beginning of February.

What did you think of Alexander McQueen’s final collection?

Update your Spring Wardrobe with Vintage Clothes

Update your Spring Wardrobe with Vintage Clothes

With warmer weather on the way its time to start thinking about your spring wardrobe and investing in a few key pieces to give your virtual closet organizer a boost.

We recently told you that, thanks to Balmain and the statement shoulders that remained a key component in its most recent show, 80s trends are still hanging around.

But you shouldn’t stop there when it comes to updating your look, as vintage clothes in general are going to be big this year.

The Concordian reports that the women with the most enviable outfits are those that manage to mix high-end fashion with some unique vintage pieces and we couldn’t agree more.

While we may lust after the designer dresses that our favorite celebs are often seen in, they are sadly a little out of our price range and wearing vintage clothing is a way of ensuring you’ve got an original and stylish look.

"Different silhouettes, cuts, colors and patterns inevitably reappear in trends throughout the years," the publication notes, adding that retro fashion "gives a certain cachet to your style".

If the idea of shopping in a second-hand store is a bit daunting, start your love affair with all things vintage by looking for accessories like scarves, bags and quality leather belts, most of which will be much cheaper than the big-name alternatives.

Are you a fan of vintage fashion?

Red Carpet Style Secrets!

For many fashion lovers, the Academy Awards are like Christmas – and as expected, Sunday night’s 82nd annual awards show did not disappoint! Hollywood’s leading ladies stepped out in gorgeous strapless and asymmetrical gowns that dazzled on the Red Carpet as well as on stage.

Let’s face it; most of us would love to know how A-list celebrities always manage to appear flawless and perfectly primed. Well fret not fashionistas! Celebrity stylist Jessica Paster, who is known for styling the likes of Emily Blunt, Kate Hudson and Cate Blanchet, has shared with us a few tips for dressing to impress – whether you are walking the red carpet or simply making an entrance walking into a room:

 • Everyone has their own style, don’t hesitate to express yours, it’s what sets you apart from the crowd!
 • Fashion starts with what’s underneath. Shapewear is a great option to help create a sexy, seamless silhouette. When purchasing Shapewear don’t be afraid to purchase it one size smaller than your typical size. One of my favorites is Secret by Victoria’s Secret Collection.
 • Always wear something that puts a smile on your face, it completes the look and exudes confidence!

What’s your secret to looking Red-Carpet ready everyday? Do you have that one item that makes you smile or feel like a celebrity?

XOXO,

Jess
